A Review Of Lush Cosmetics

The very best part about researching and writing this Lush overview was getting to use Lush products! I tried out an assortment of products from their various product lines, and, for the most part appreciated their benefits. However, it wasn’t all smooth sailing.

For starters, Lush’s American Cream body lotion provided the same therapeutic effects for me as I’ve had in other, cheaper products and body lotions. American Cream is an effective lotion, but not one that warrants what is essentially a luxury price tag.

I didn’t make it through an entire bar, but it’s clear that it would \ last longer than my usual shampoo. However, the bar didn’t necessarily clean my hair as thoroughly as my usual shampoos. It is also a more invasive process to cover and clean your entire head of hair when using a bar.

I think I’ll probably be sticking to traditional shampoos in the future. Lush facial cleansers and masks did an impressively effective job of cleaning my skin. I’ll be going back to Lush for my facial scrubbing needs for a certainty, as other brands have let my face down in the past.

Finally, Lush’s famed bath bombs provide an undoubtedly fun bath time experience. You must decide whether or not these one-time-use bombs warrant their moderate price tags. It’s not that the bombs will break the bank – far from it! It’s more that the thought of making bath-time a $10-$20 expenditure isn’t a pleasant one. Overall, Lush products are effective and inventive. However, they do not necessarily always warrant the premium one would pay rather than opting for a generic brand.

The short answer to this question is yes, as a brand Lush is a cruelty free brand and no, they do not test their products, formulas or ingredients on animals. If you worry about whether the animal products in your bath bomb are ethical, worry not. They’re PETA approved and follow REACH regulations to ensure that they’re always up to date with any regulatory changes concerning the use of harmful chemicals in their products.

Is Lush Vegan?

So this is where people tend to get disappointed with a brand like Lush – and it’s actually become quite a hefty bone of contention among cosmetics companies and animal right’s activists.

The short answer to this question is no, Lush is not a vegan brand. Their products do contain small amount of animal products such as milk, honey, lanolin, eggs and beeswax and while they claim that the animals were not harmed in the process, the fact remains that these are not vegan-friendly products. They do offer some vegan products, but for the most part, Lush is not vegan.

People tend to take offence to this when they consider that they’re approved by a board like PETA. However, folks tend to forget that PETA stands for protecting animals against cruelty and are not an exclusively vegan group. I think this causes a lot of the misunderstanding as people may feel betrayed. While Lush products are amazing and natural, some will simply be forced to avoid using them due to non-vegan status.
